The Winnipeg Jets have placed forward Nikolaj Ehlers on LTIR.

Ehlers was injured earlier this week after receiving a knee-on-knee hit from Washington Capitals defenseman Dmitry Orlov. With him being placed on LTIR, Ehlers will not be able to return to the lineup until at least February 14th’s game against the Chicago Blackhawks. Thus, they will be without him for a good chunk of time.

Ehlers is a huge part of Winnipeg’s roster, so naturally, he is going to be missed significantly. In 34 games this season, he has 13 goals to go along with 12 assists. Thus, it’s been another solid year for him offensively, and it will be hard for the Jets to replace him in their lineup.

This is also very bad timing for the Jets, as they are currently fighting to get back into playoff contention. At this time, they sport a 17-13-6, so it’s fair to say that they need to pile up some wins. However, they will now have to do so without Ehlers.

Nevertheless, here’s to hoping Ehlers is able to return to the lineup once February comes around.
