Earlier this week it was reported by Frank Seravalli of Daily Faceoff that the Vegas Golden Knights were interested in bringing back Marc-Andre Fleury. The news came on the heels of goaltender Robin Lehner potentially suffering a torn labrum and being shelved for what could be the remainder of the season. Golden Knights general manager Kelly McCrimmon caught wind of the news Tuesday night and had some interesting comments.
McCrimmon spoke to David Schoen of the Las Vegas Review Journal and had this to say:

There is absolutely no credence to that rumor at all. I wouldn’t normally speak (officially) on such things, but there will be so much racket about this, it’s important to let people know that’s not going to happen

The 37-year-old veteran joined the Chicago Blackhawks before the season started in a salary dump deal from the Golden Knights and frankly it’s not worked out in the windy city. There’s no denying the Flower was pretty pissed off, shocked and upset by the trade from Vegas, especially the fact he found out on Twitter. There was a chance he was going to retire and instead he choose to carry on in Chicago.

Now, Fleury is a hot commodity as the Washington Capitals and Edmonton Oilers have also been in contact with the Blackhawks about a trade and so far there’s been no traction. Some feel Fleury will stay put for the remainder of the season.  He is playing outstanding on a bad team as his .910 save % is quite impressive for a team near the bottom of the Western Conference standings.

The reigning Vezina Trophy winner has no-trade protection that covers him from 10 teams of his choice. Expect to see the Blackhawks management group keep Fleury informed on the trade talk and you can bet he’ll have a say in the matter. Sounds like the Capitals and Golden Knights are out, perhaps we see a move involving another team before the March 21 trade deadline.
