The Laval Rocket won the fifth and deciding game of their North Division semifinal series in dramatic fashion Tuesday night in Syracuse with a 3-2 overtime victory over the Crunch. The Rocket were trailing 2-0 in the second period, but Alex Belzile cut the Crunch lead to 2-1 before intermission and Cédric Paquette tied it with only 39 seconds left in the third period and goalie Cayden Primeau on the bench for an extra attacker.
Gabriel Bourque scored the winner at 10:13 of OT, advancing the Rocket to the North Division final against either the Utica Comets or the Rochester Americans, who are tied 2-2 in their best-of-five series heading into Game 5 Thursday night.
In 2011, the Hamilton Bulldogs were the Canadiens’ AHL affiliate and they won two playoff series before losing 4-3 to the Houston Aeros in Game 7 of the best-of-seven Western Conference final. Nigel Dawes was the leading scorer for the Bulldogs during the playoffs with 14-8-22 totals in 20 games, followed by Aaron Palushaj (7-12-19) and Dustin Boyd (5-11-16). Drew MacIntyre was the goalie, posting an 11-9-0 record with a 1.95 goals-against average and a .930 save percentage.
