The San Jose Sharks originally noted that defenseman Erik Karlsson will be out day-to-day. However, according to Curtis Pashelka of The Mercury News, the 31-year-old is set to meet with team doctors to go over ways to help heal his injury. This could open the door to him having to rehab it, which would keep him out of the lineup longer.

If Karlsson has to miss a decent chunk of time, it would be very bad news for the Sharks. At this point of the season, they have a 21-19-2 record and hold the second Wild Card spot in the Western Conference. However, multiple teams are very close behind who also have games in hand. Due to this, they have to win a lot from here to maintain their playoff spot. Losing their best offensive defenseman will not make that task easy.

After having just 22 points in 52 games last season, many fans were claiming that Karlsson was washed up. However, he has been having a very solid bounce-back year, as he has eight goals and 26 points in just 33 games. However, it is disappointing that it may need to be paused for an extended period with this development.

Here’s to hoping his injury isn’t too serious and that he will still be deemed as day-to-day after he meets with the Sharks doctors.
