On Tuesday, the AHL team announced four players and one staff member were placed on the COVID-19 protocol list. The league subsequently decided to postpone the Rocket’s game at Belleville Wednesday night, which would have started a five-game road trip and a sequence of 15 games over 25 days.
Members of the organization spent Wednesday undergoing rapid tests. If they are negative, the team will depart for Syracuse Thursday morning, according to a team official, and meet the Crunch Friday night.
Laval had five games postponed between Dec. 18 and Jan. 8 due to the pandemic, leading to this backlog and compressed schedule. The Rocket has played only 36 games — tied for the fewest in the AHL with the Marlies, who were scheduled to meet Utica Wednesday night.
