Parti Québécois Leader Paul St-Pierre Plamondon.

Quebec continues to deal with worker shortages despite increases in immigration over the last 30 years, PQ Leader Paul St- Pierre Plamondon told the Presse Canadienne,

His comments came after multiple business groups called for increased immigration to bolster Quebec’s labour force.

Immigration has not solved the problem, St- Pierre Plamondon said.

What’s more, according to immigration lawyer Stéphane Handfield, the PQ’s candidate in Masson, the significant increase being suggested would only increase demand for services like health care or daycare places or even housing.

“Are we doing right by new immigrants if we don’t take into account these issues,” he asked.

St-Pierre Plamondon said his party wants a calm debate on immigration that is “based on science and not on ideology or false premises.”
