Edmonton Oilers forward Derick Brassard (16) plays the San Jose Sharks during first period NHL action at Rogers Place in Edmonton, on Thursday, March 24, 2022.

It also means he always has an alumni golf tournament to play in.

“I’ve met a few guys here before, four or five on this team … Connor (McDavid) and Cody (Ceci) at the worlds and I played with Cody in Ottawa (Senators) and Tyson Barrie in Colorado,” said Brassard. “But being 34 years old, it also makes it easier because I have experience in the league. Pretty nice building here, pretty nice room, first-class organization. (Brett) Kulak and I were talking about that last night.”

Nugent-Hopkins laughed when suggested Brassard has the’ “hello, I’m Derick” handshake down after being on so many different teams.

“He’s been around … coming to a new team, I’m sure he’ll adjust pretty quickly. I’ve played against him a fair bit with him being around as long as he has,” said Nugent-Hopkins.
