They write:
The Juventus club has signed a contract valid for the next two championships with the 33-year-old Finnish goalkeeper Mikko Koskinen who recently closed the NHL playoffs with the Edmonton Oilers (45 appearances this season)…. Returning to his homeland until 2014 where he defended the colors first of the KalPa Kuopio, then of “his” Espoo Blues, he later distinguished himself as one of the best extreme defenders of the KHL, resulting among the protagonists of the conquest of two national titles (Gagarin Cup) with the SKA of St. Petersburg in 2015 and 2017.
Koskinen was unlikely to return to the Oilers, who let his contract expire and there were no talks of an extension. Hew as a suitable 1B for Edmonton, but there was always a belief that he signed too pricy a deal by Peter Chiarelli and never was able to live up to the expectations that came with the contract.
The Oilers have to address their goaltending situation, but not necessarily at the backup position, where AHL star Stuart Skinner will likely come in and play an elevated role with the team next season. It’s finding a starter the Oilers need to do and they’ve let their current starter, Mike Smith (40) know they’d like him to decide if he’s returning by July 1. Smith has one more season remaining on his current deal with the team.
