Since Martin St. Louis took over on Feb. 9, it’s been all about the future for the Canadiens, who have an 8-6-1 record under their new head coach.

A big part of that future is Cole Caufield, who scored two goals in eight seconds late in the second period as the Canadiens’ cut Arizona’s lead to 5-3 before the Coyotes added an empty-netter late in the third period. Caufield now has 11 goals this season and 10 of them have come in the 15 games since St. Louis became head coach.

Caufield’s first goal against the Coyotes came on a power-play shot from the top of the left circle. His second was a natural goal-scorer’s goal, picking the top corner with a quick release.

“I thought I was OK,” Caufield said after the game when asked to assess his overall performance. “Obviously, you can get better every game and learn from a lot of things.”
