The New York Rangers may have not been the better team in Game 3, but they found a way to win thanks to Igor Shesterkin, and they now have a chance to tie this series up at 2-2.
The Carolina Hurricanes played their best road game of the postseason, but they just couldn’t finish on their chances — not from a lack of trying.
Will the Canes’ road struggles continue or will they finally break through tonight? Find out in our free NHL betting picks and predictions for Rangers vs. Hurricanes on Tuesday, May 24.

Hurricanes vs Rangers Game 4 picks and predictions
Our side and total predictions are based upon our analysis of the line and total in this game. Our best bet is our favorite pick across all markets.
The Rangers were finally able to find some offensive production in this series thanks to their big guns stepping up. Mika Zibanejad and Chris Kreider led the team all season long and they were both able to get on the scoresheet in Game 3.
The Hurricanes were definitely the better team in Game 3, but in hockey, the better team doesn’t always win. Even though the Canes may have outshot the Rangers 44-31, New York had more expected goals winning that battle with 3.85 as opposed to Carolina’s 2.8.
Igor Shesterkin had what was arguably his best performance of the entire playoffs as he made 43 saves along with all 13 of Carolina’s high-danger chances, and he finished the game with 3.51 goals saved above expected.
Antti Raanta had a strong showing for the Hurricanes as well, but his team just couldn’t find a way to score — which seems to be a trend in this postseason when they are on the road. In its four road games combined, Carolina has only scored seven times.
The Rangers have been phenomenal on home ice in this postseason as they are skating to a 4-1 record at Madison Square Garden, and they have scored a total of 20 goals.
It will be interesting to see what the Blueshirts decide to do with their lineup as we saw their head coach, Gerard Gallant, mess with the lines in Game 3. No matter what they decide to do, I still think this is their game as they know they need to tie this series up with it heading back to Carolina for Game 5. I think the Rangers get another win at home and knot it up.
Prediction: Rangers moneyline (-105 at DraftKings)
Not much has changed throughout the first three games as far as trends go in this series. The goaltending has been outstanding in all three games and I don’t see any reason as to why that will be any different tonight.
Antti Raanta was the story of Games 1 & 2, but Igor Shesterkin was most definitely the narrative in Game 3 with his incredible performance. As good as Shesterkin was and has been, Raanta should not be counted out in this series — although Frederik Andersen is once again back on the ice with his team.
Rod Brind’Amour says that it was great to see Frederik Andersen on the ice today and nice to know that things are progressing in the right direction.
The next step?
“I’ll let you know when he’s an option, how about that?”

So far in the playoffs, Raanta sits with a .939 SV% and 1.86 GAA. In the other crease, Igor Shesterkin is sporting a .921 SV% and a 2.95 GAA. Both of these teams also don’t generate that many high-danger chances per game, with the Canes averaging 12.23 and the Rangers even less than that with a flat 10 per game.
The goaltending and team defenses continue to be the main storyline of this series and I don’t see that changing tonight. I like this game to stay Under.
Prediction: Under 5.5 (-130 at DraftKings)
There was a lot of drama at the end of Game 3 and some of that emotion will definitely carry into tonight’s matchup, but the New York Rangers’ focus is not on that extra nonsense, it is on winning a hockey game and tying this series.
As good as Carolina was offensively all season, it has definitely struggled to score goals on the road in the playoffs, and I am not sure that it will find a way to fix that against a red hot Shesterkin. Not many people are talking about how good the Rangers have been at home this postseason as they are outscoring their opponents 20-12.
Raanta has done his job for Carolina, but I think most people would tell you New York has the edge in goal. An area of concern for the Hurricanes is they have not scored on their last 14 power-play opportunities against the Rangers and the Blueshirts were able to find some success on the man advantage in Game 3.
If you ask me, New York took the momentum back in this series on home ice and I think it will use that to win Game 4.
