The Boston Bruins came out and played hard in what was a must-win Game 3, earning a 4-2 victory over the Carolina Hurricanes.
The Bruins dominated the entire 60 minutes and Jeremy Swayman looked excellent in goal in his first career playoff start.
The Hurricanes have been able to bounce back well this year, and will need a great effort should they bring a 3-1 series lead back to Carolina for Game 5.

Hurricanes vs Bruins picks and predictions
Our side and total predictions are based upon our analysis of the line and total in this game. Our best bet is our favorite pick across all markets.
Moneyline analysis
Bruce Cassidy changed up the lines ahead of Game 3 with the offense in mind and it certainly played out in the Bruins’ favor.
Cassidy put together a top line consisting of Brad Marchand (one goal, two assists in Game 2), Patrice Bergeron, and David Pastrnak. When they’re on the ice together, they’re arguably the best line in all of hockey. This could be a turning point in the series for the Bruins if those three stick together.
Jeremy Swayman had an excellent season for the B’s and he looked sharp in his first career start, making 25 saves and leading the B’s to a 4-2 win.
The Carolina Hurricanes didn’t have any issues scoring goals in Games 1 and 2, but it didn’t come easy for them as they only had a rating of 1.74 expected goals. The Bruins were a Top-5 defense in the regular season on home ice and they should be able to make it difficult on Carolina once more.
Back the Bruins to tie this series up.
Prediction: Bruins moneyline (-135 at DraftKings)
Over/Under analysis
Pyotr Kochetkov might be a rookie, but he is an incredible goalie who probably felt the pressure of his first playoff start in Game 3 in what was an off night for this Canes defense. Not only was this the best defensive team in the regular season, but through three games are allowing just 2.33 goals per game.
The Bruins showed exactly why they have been a consistent playoff team for years with their performance in Game 3. Jeremy Swayman looked great, boasting a .926 save percentage. The difference in the game was Boston’s penalty kill which went a perfect 100%, stopping all five of Carolina’s power-play opportunities.
I think both teams will be a little sharper defensively and this game will stay under.
Prediction: Under 6 (-120 at DraftKings)
Best bet
The Bruins’ power play which did not look very good in Games 1 and 2 was finally able to perform well in Game 3, going 2-for-5. That should keep their confidence up and allow them to stay in an offensive groove.
With Marchand, Bergeron, and Pastrnak playing together, I think Boston will have some more offensive juice and flow.
The Hurricanes can’t be counted out so easily, but we see how this Bruins team plays on home ice. Expect another strong performance from them in Game 4 to tie up this series.
Pick: Bruins moneyline (-135 at DraftKings)
