After a nasty hit that sent defenseman Hampus Lindholm down to the ice, it’s not surprising to hear he’s going to miss some time for the Boston Bruins. Lindholm took a huge hit by Andrei Svechnikov as he tried to carry the puck out from behind his own net and did not return to action. He was given permission to fly home with the team, but head coach Bruce Cassidy said after Game 2, “He’s not doing well.”

The news goes from bad to worse for a Bruins team already dealing with the fact they are down 0-2 in their series hole to the Carolina Hurricanes. It’s a series the Hurricanes have absolutely dominated, much like the games the two teams played during the regular season. It’s not clear if Lindholm will be back should this first-round match-up be wrapped up in the next two or three games.
Lindholm had to be helped off the ice by the Bruins’ trainer and teammates Jake DeBrusk and Taylor Hall. He was ruled out with an upper-body injury, and head coach Bruce Cassidy didn’t make it sound promising after the game. Most are under the impression the hit was clean, but that makes it no less consequential for the Bruins.
Lindholm was a trade-deadline acquisition who quickly signed a long-term extension with the team. Not only was he brought in to help with a Bruins’ postseason run this year but he’s a big part of their blue line plans moving forward.
Bruins Changing Things Up For Game 3
Cassidy also noted that goaltender Jeremy Swayman is getting the start in Game 3. The Bruins badly need to be kickstarted to get into this series. They’ve been outscored 24-2 in games against the Hurricanes this year and right now, it’s not looking like much of a contest.
