The Calgary Flames are officially through to the second round of the 2022 Stanley Cup playoffs, setting the stage for a long-awaited spring showdown with the arch-enemy Edmonton Oilers.

The Oilers had already done their part. The Flames finalized plans for this provincewide party with Sunday’s 3-2 overtime victory in Game 7 against the Dallas Stars at the Saddledome.

Johnny Gaudreau roofed a shot in sudden-death, joining Martin Gelinas, Joel Otto and Steve Smith on the list of Flames’ heroes in these series-defining moments.

“You dream about stuff like that, scoring in a Game 7 in overtime,” Gaudreau said.

From Balzac to Barrhead, from Fort Macleod to Fort McMurray, fans have been dreaming about a best-of-seven between the Flames and Oilers.
