The Calgary Flames celebrate after Johnny Gaudreau scored the overtime winner to defeat the Dallas Stars in the deciding Game 7 of their first-round playoff series at Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary on Sunday, May 15, 2022.

The Calgary Flames are officially through to the second round of the 2022 Stanley Cup playoffs, setting the stage for a long-awaited spring showdown with the arch-enemy Edmonton Oilers.

The Oilers had already done their part. The Flames finalized plans for this provincewide party with Sunday’s 3-2 overtime victory in Game 7 against the Dallas Stars at the Saddledome.

Johnny Gaudreau roofed a shot in sudden-death, joining Martin Gelinas, Joel Otto and Steve Smith on the list of Flames’ heroes in these series-defining moments.

“You dream about stuff like that, scoring in a Game 7 in overtime,” Gaudreau said.

From Balzac to Barrhead, from Fort Macleod to Fort McMurray, fans have been dreaming about a best-of-seven between the Flames and Oilers.
