No offence to Detroit, Edmonton was a bottom feeder longer than just about any other team in the NHL, but the Oilers should be past the point in their evolution and in their playoff chase, of losing important home games to 24th-place teams on five-game losing streaks.

But, after watching their mental lapses in losses to Montreal, Ottawa, Chicago, New Jersey and Seattle this year, fans held their breath waiting to see which Oilers team would be showing up for Tuesday’s tap in at Rogers Place.

Turns out they got to see both.

The good Oilers overwhelmed Detroit out of the gate and appeared to have this game won in less than five minutes, then the bad Oilers fell asleep and coughed up a three-goal lead to turn the third period into a ridiculous fire drill.
