There’s trouble in paradise for the Edmonton Oilers as their latest game against the Florida Panthers on Thursday brought out the worst from fans. The Oilers lost the game 6-0 and jerseys were thrown onto the ice by Oilers not so faithful.
Rumor has management is working the phones hard this week as the entire management team, scouting team and ownership is in California meeting face to face to nail down the strategy as we creep closer to the trade deadline. There’s no doubt the Oilers need to upgrade in net or else they are not going to make the postseason and that’s frankly unacceptable when your team has the two best players in the league.
As far as goaltending options, the Oilers are not high on Joonas Korpisalo according to Pierre LeBrun of TSN, and they have also considered adding Anton Khudobin from the Dallas Stars. Other options they have considered include Jake Allen of the Montreal Canadiens who is now out for two months, along with Jeremy Swayman of the Boston Bruins and Chris Driedger of the Seattle Kraken.
Holland has his work cut out for him because he’s been pretty clear to the rest of the league he’s not interested moving his first-round pick this season and any deal to acquire a netminder may mean some big names get dealt off their current NHL roster. The likes of Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Kailer Yamamoto have been rumored to be involved in trade talks involving a goalie coming back the other way.
The Oilers host the Calgary Flames on Saturday night in what’s becoming a must-win game for multiple reasons. Netminder Mikko Koskinen started on Thursday against the Panthers and as we saw his performance wasn’t good enough. He’s 0-4-1 in his last five starts and his run could be coming to an end in Edmonton.
