As per Marco D’Amico of Montreal Hockey Now, if Pierre-Luc Dubois becomes available this offseason, the Montreal Canadiens will be linked to him. That doesn’t necessarily mean D’Amico believes the Canadiens will move heaven and earth to acquire Dubois, only that they’ll kick tires and insiders will make the obvious connections between the two parties.

Elliotte Friedman recently reported that the Winnipeg Jets might end up trading Dubois if the two sides can’t come to an agreement. He noted during the 32 Thoughts Segment on Saturday’s Hockey Night in Canada broadcast, “I think one scenario people are going to be watching is Pierre-Luc Dubois. ” He added, “He’s up for a new contract, he’s got two years until unrestricted free agency, so he’s in a situation where he’s got some real power over his future.”

Noting that the Jets are looking at big offseason changes, Friedman finished with, “If the Jets feel they can’t sign him long-term, or that he doesn’t want to sign long-term, I think it’s going to be a situation to watch.” The Canadiens are now a part of this discussion because the franchise has been linked to Dubois before.
Back in January 2021, there was rumored interest from the Habs before Dubois was traded to the Jets for Patrick Laine. Nick Kypereos had reported that Dubois’ first destination choice was Montreal and that the Blue Jackets and Canadiens had talked about a potential deal. The rumored ask from Columbus was Nick Suzuki, plus.

It’s not clear how Kent Hughes views Dubois but one would imagine that Suzuki would no longer be a player the Canadiens would consider moving. He’s got 21 goals and 59 points in 80 games this season. He’s younger, cheaper, and seems to have a higher ceiling than Dubois, who is now 23 years old and has never broken 61 points in his five NHL seasons.
On the other hand, there are some pieces out of Montreal that could move. Whether it’s Brendan Gallagher, Josh Anderson, Jeff Petry or other players the Canadiens might be open to moving for the right return, the talk will then shift to how badly the Jets want to shake things up and if the character of any of these players could help Winnipeg in their attempt to retool the roster.
