Canadiens' Cole Caufield celebrates after scoring a goal against the Ottawa Senators during the second period at the Bell Centre on Saturday, March 19, 2022, in Montreal.

This was a good test for Allen, who was playing his second game in three nights after missing more than two months with a groin injury. The Senators outshot the Canadiens 30-27 and he had to handle numerous shots from close range, as well as at least two breakaways. The win boosted his record to 6-16-3.

Montreal took control of the game with two goals early in the second period to go ahead 3-1.

Jake Evans, who opened the scoring in the first period, got the ball rolling on the second Montreal goal when he lobbed a pass into the neutral zone. Michael Pezzetta carried the puck into the zone and fed Paul Byron, who used his speed to get behind the Ottawa defence before beating Filip Gustavsson with a quick shot on the blocker side.
