Emergency services were notified around around 12:25 of a vehicle that was on fire in Pointe aux Prairies nature park.
It was only after they put out the blaze that firefighters made the macabre discovery.
At that point, the investigation was transferred to the Montreal police, according to spokesperson Jean-Pierre Brabant.
He said investigators were on the scene, where a security perimeter had be set up. A command centre will be set up.
“An autopsy will be undertaken on the body found in the vehicle, as no identification is currently possible,” Brabant added.
The car will also be inspected to determine the precise causes of the fire.
Montreal police spokesperson Mariane Allair Morin later confirmed that the victim was a man.
This is Montreal’s tenth homicide since the start of the year, she said.
