Avalanche vs Oilers Game 4 picks and predictions

Our side and total predictions are based upon our analysis of the line and total in this game. Our best bet is our favorite pick across all markets.

Moneyline analysis

The Avalanche shouldn’t waste any time in eliminating the Oilers and making their way to the Stanley Cup Final.

The Avs have won each of their last six road games, including Saturday night’s 4-2 triumph in Edmonton. They ran their record to 6-1 against the Oilers in their last seven meetings with the victory.

Colorado, as usual, has gotten contributions up and down its roster, with five players scoring at least four points in this series alone. Mikko Rantanen has been at the forefront of the Avs’ attack, notching a goal in each of the first three games of the Western Conference Final while adding two assists for good measure.

The Avalanche defense has also played a major role in giving its team a 3-0 series lead. After surrendering six goals in Game 1, Colorado has allowed just two total over Games 2 and 3. Pavel Francouz has effectively relieved the injured Darcy Kuemper in net for Colorado, recording a 24-save shutout in Game 2, and allowing only two goals on 29 shots in Game 3.

Trend bettors should be unafraid to hitch their wagon to the Avs on Monday, as the betting favorite has won each of the last nine meetings between these two teams. Additionally, the Oilers are 20-43 in their last 63 games as a home underdog.

Prediction: Avalanche moneyline (-125 at BetMGM)

Over/Under analysis

Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl have been kept in check by the Colorado defense over the last six periods of play, but they are each due for a dramatically-improved effort in Game 4. That should drive this game Over the total rather easily.

McDavid had a goal and two assists in Game 1, then recorded only one goal and no assists in Games 2 and 3 combined. The Oilers captain is the current NHL leader in postseason points with 30, so it would be a mild surprise if he doesn’t record a multi-point game with Edmonton’s season on the line.

Draisaitl has gone six games without a goal dating back to his team’s series with the Calgary Flames. After tallying two assists in Game 1 against the Avalanche, he’s been held off the scoresheet in two straight. That also seems due to change in Game 4.

Meanwhile, Oilers goalie Mike Smith and his defense have not demonstrated the aptitude to keep Nathan MacKinnon & Co. down. Smith sports a 5.39 GAA and a .879 save percentage through three games.

The Over is 4-1 in the Oilers’ last five playoff games as an underdog, and 17-8 in their last 25 home games. The total has been exceeded in four of the Avs’ last five road games.

Prediction: Over 6.5 (-135 at WynnBET)

Best bet

Bettors should anticipate McDavid and Draisaitl to bounce back in Game 4, but that doesn’t mean it will be enough to overcome Colorado’s mighty offense.

MacKinnon and Cale Makar are leading the Avs in scoring this postseason, producing 17 points apiece. Rantanen has gathered 16 points, and captain Gabriel Landeskog has 14, tied for fourth with Nazem Kadri.

Though Kadri has been ruled out for the rest of the series due to an upper-body injury, Edmonton has lost Evander Kane to a one-game suspension for the boarding penalty that caused that harm.

Colorado is clearly the more balanced team, as their offense never gives the Oilers’ stoppers a chance to breathe. They should seal the sweep on Monday night.

Pick: Over 6.5 (-135 at WynnBET)
