As Ottawa’s AHL affiliate in Belleville gets ready to play its first post-season game in franchise history Wednesday night against the Rochester Americans on the road, it goaltender Filip Gustavsson is pencilled in to make the start for the Senators in Game 1.

It wasn’t an easy season for the 23-year-old Gustavsson, but he appears to peaking at the right time as the Senators open this best-of-three first-round series. It will continue Friday with Game 2 at the CAA Arena in Belleville and there again Sunday for Game 3 if necessary.

While goaltender Mads Sogaard skated Monday, it’s not known if he’ll be healthy enough to back up. Right now, Gustavsson has the chance to carry the ball for Belleville and run with it if he can help the Senators get through Round 1.
